| An unusual feature of the Tree Fern is its strange, thick root system that forms a dark brown trunk. The exotic mid to dark green fronds add drama making it a sought after specimen that is perfect for a semi shady spot, creating a focal point to the border. One of the most unusual species in the plant world, the Tree Fern is relatively easy to look after. The trunk must be kept moist by spraying the whole stem regularly with water, adding a little feed to the spray every so often. For best results grow in humus-rich, neutral to acid soil. It is hardy to -10°C with the foliage hardy to -2°C though it is advisable to protect the crown over the winter months by insulating with leaves or straw. This is a slow growing species so if you want instant maturity we can provide larger specimens. The best time to view them is in the summer months when the fronds are at their fullest. Our Tree Ferns are harvested in accordance with Tasmanian and Australian Governement approval.
